چکیده

Little information is available regarding triple-phase computed tomography (CT) of canine pancreatic insulinoma. A few case reports with small numbers of cases have indicated that hyper-attenuation in the arterial phase was a common finding on multi-phasic CT in dogs with insulinoma. Our purpose was to clarify the characteristic findings of dogs with insulinoma on triple-phase CT. Nine dogs with insulinoma that underwent triple-phase CT were included in the present study. Attenuation patterns in the arterial phase indicated hypo-attenuation in 4 cases and hyper-attenuation in 2 cases. In the remaining 3 cases, 1 case showed hypo-attenuation and 1 case showed hyper-attenuation in the pancreatic phase, and 1 case presented hyper-attenuation in the later phase. Altogether, 5 cases showed hypo and 4 cases showed hyper-attenuation in at least one phase. The enhancement pattern was homogenous in 7 cases and heterogeneous in 2 cases. Tumor margins were well-defined in 5 cases and ill-defined in 4 cases. Capsule formation was present in 5 cases and absent in 4 cases. In conclusion, it is important to note that hypo-attenuation was as common as hyper-attenuation in dogs with insulinoma in triple-phase CT in at least one phase. Additionally, mass lesions were most conspicuous not only in the arterial phase but in the pancreatic and later phases in some cases. Therefore, it is important to perform triple-phase CT and notice about variable findings for the detection of canine pancreatic insulinoma.

Contrast-Enhanced Ultrasonographic Detection and Dual-Phase Computed Tomographic Angiography in a 5-Year-Old Boxer with Pancreatic Insulinoma—Case Report

This case report describes the findings in a canine histopathologically confirmed pancreatic insulinoma using contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) and dual-phase computed tomographic angiography (CTA). The insulinoma was better demarcated in CEUS and CTA compared with conventional B-mode ultrasound. On the other hand, only one of two nodules visible in CTA was detected in CEUS. In this case, the...

Triple-phase helical computed tomography in dogs with solid splenic masses

We investigated the utility of triple-phase helical computed tomography (CT) in differentiating between benign and malignant splenic masses in dogs. Forty-two dogs with primary splenic masses underwent triple-phase helical CT scanning (before administration of contrast, and in the arterial phase, portal venous phase, and delayed phase) prior to splenectomy. Tissue specimens were sent for pathol...

Volumetric evaluation of pituitary gland in dog and cat using computed tomography

The objective of this study was to evaluate the pituitary gland dimensions due to age and weight using computed tomography (CT) in dogs and cats. The CT images of pituitary gland were assessed in 11 client-owned dogs (six males and five females; age range, 1 to 9 years) and 15 client-owned cats (eight males and seven females; age range, 1 to 14 years) with no evidence of pituitary diseases. The...

Insulinoma and Chronic Kidney Disease: An Uncommon Conundrum Not to Be Overlooked

A hypertensive man with chronic kidney disease (CKD) secondary to polycystic disease was hospitalized for symptoms related to hypoglycemia. Fasting test elicited symptomatic hypoglycemia after 12 hours, which was associated with inappropriately unsuppressed normal insulin and C-peptide levels. Neither ultrasonography (US) nor magnetic resonance imaging detected any pancreatic tumor. Endoscopic ...

Laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy preserving spleen and splenic vessels for pancreatic insulinoma.

We describe a 43-year-old woman who underwent laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy preserving the spleen and splenic vessels for the treatment of insulinoma in the pancreatic body. The patient experienced cold sweats on fasting, received diagnosis of insulinoma, and was referred to our hospital for laparoscopic surgery. Blood biochemistry studies showed low fasting blood glucose of 42 mg/dL, seri...
